Risk Intelligence
Risk factor
In risk intelligence, a risk factor is a named input to Overwatch's vessel risk score. The current scoring code evaluates signals covering AIS gap duration and frequency, location context, flag state, vessel age and type, prior history, sanctions matches, STS involvement, draft anomalies, loitering, identity manipulation, P&I coverage, and obfuscation risk. Each factor has a raw value, a weight, and a weighted contribution; the composite produces a score and risk tier. The vessel view exposes factor contributions so analysts can inspect drivers instead of treating the total as a conclusion. The public factor registry documents the named signals on the Risk Intelligence page; the underlying scoring model keeps its lower-level contributions separate. Why it matters for grain flows: factors help separate ordinary shipping movement from vessel behavior that could weaken confidence in a grain-flow interpretation.
