Data freshness & status
The STATUS chip on dashboard views reports the freshness of the data behind it, backed by a timestamp — it never claims a feed is “live” without one. That is why the mobile shells show a STATUS chip with a last-updated time instead of an unqualified LIVE badge. See every ingestion source, cron job, and service uptime on the Status page.
Reading an estimate
Every tonnage figure comes from a waterfall, not one formula: Overwatch tries the most physically-accurate method first — draft-survey hydrostatics — and falls back through table interpolation, vessel-specific curves, and a physics-informed proxy only when better inputs are missing. Each estimate carries a confidence tier and the method used, so a full draft-survey estimate is never presented the same way as a legacy fallback.
Reading a risk score
Each vessel’s risk score aggregates signals from a documented risk-factor registry — AIS gaps, STS transfer proximity, loitering, identity changes, and sanctions screening among them — into a single tier. Flagged signals move through an analyst adjudication queue, so a tier reflects both automated detection and any analyst review it has received.
Troubleshooting
A vessel shows stale data
Likely an AIS coverage gap. Check the vessel's AIS Gap History for the last confirmed position.
A port shows no congestion figure
The congestion index may not have computed yet for that port this hour. Check back shortly.
An estimate is missing a confidence tier
Too few completed visits exist yet to establish a baseline for that vessel or route.
A risk score looks unchanged after new activity
Risk scores recompute on a schedule, not on every new position — the next scheduled pass will pick up the activity.
