Port Operations
Port zone
A port zone is a port-scoped polygon in port_zones that provides the spatial boundary for event detection. The schema classifies zones as geofence, anchorage, or berth and stores a WGS84 Polygon geometry. Overwatch matches AIS positions to these polygons, then compares the match with the vessel's previous event for that port. A new vessel or one whose previous event was departed can produce entered; a berth match can produce berthed; a stationary vessel in an anchorage after entered can produce anchored. Departure is detected separately when the last in-zone position ages past the departure timeout without a reappearance. These transitions form the port-call timeline used by visit, congestion, and cargo processing. Why it matters for grain flows: zones turn raw positions near an export port into the loading and departure evidence behind flow estimates.
